Computer Software Developers

The four general types of computer software include System Software, Middleware, Application Software and Engineering Software.  System Software provides the interface between the application software and the hardware. An example would be network management software and operating systems.  Middleware is software that connects various software applications on a computer.  Application Software is used for numerous different tasks on a computer.  The major subcategories of Application Software are Office Suite Software and Database Software, (Word Processing, Presentations, Spreadsheets), and Enterprise Software (Business Intelligence, Content Management, Customer Relationship Management, Data Security, Human Resources Management, Knowledge Management, Predictive Analytics & Forecasting) and Price Optimization.
