Lead Game Systems Designer MMOG, Seattle Washington  (Hired in 32 days)

The Lead Designer is responsible for designing, documenting, and tuning mathematically oriented game systems.
The Lead Designer must also help develop and convey the game ideas and concepts to the internal studio.

Ideally the Lead Designer will also work to keep the design deliverables on a timely development schedule.

Responsibilities
• Work with the Design Director and the design team from preproduction through release, covering all aspects of MMO game design: gameplay systems, world design, level design, story, and player interface.
• Work closely with main studio development teams to ensure game concept and play is appropriately conveyed.
• Collaborate with art and programming teams to support the game design. Ensure that game design and vision is understood by all team members. Ensure that design specifications are technically and artistically realistic.
• Champion the design vision clearly and concisely to the team.
• Provide reviews critiques of game content and systems to ensure these meet desired quality levels, and is consistent with overall game vision and design.
• Ensure design team provides highly detailed design documents, with periodic updates.
• In coordination with Design Director, set goals and objectives for individual team members and act as visionary, mentor and coach.
• Work closely with Producer and Design Director to help create effective and realistic design schedules.
• Provide regular updates and reports as required to Design Director, Producer and other studio management.
• Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with internal and external creative resources.
• Help mentor designers in remote studio and main studio as needed.

Desired Qualifications:
• 5+ years of video game industry experience as in a lead or senior design role.
• 2+ years of experience in a lead or senior role on an MMO
• 2+ complete product cycles from concept to ship
• Strong knowledge of basic game design and level design theory/rules.
• Strong understanding of 3D game space and level flow.
• Ability to critically evaluate existing and competing products from a design and gameplay perspective.
• Must excel at leading teams to creative consensus.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to work in large groups, including strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with Art, Marketing, and Engineering staff to efficiently deliver the best games while meeting the goals and requirements of each area.
• Competence with scheduling software, prototyping tools, scripting tools, source control, bug-tracking, and documentation.
• Ability to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing, fast-paced work environment.
• Passion for Video Games!
• Experience with entire game development cycle, from concept to release.
• College degree, preferably math, economics, or CS related.
• Experience with Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Photoshop, MindManager, or Visio
• Must be eligible to work in United States or Canada.
• Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally as needed.
